What is the key purpose of a Sr. Software Engineer?
As a Sr. Software Engineer in the Infrastructure Engineering R&D group, you will be instrumental in developing and maintaining one of the largest real-time high-scale operations in the world. You’ll have end-to-end ownership over our services, collaborating with a team of bright software engineers to directly influence how billions of people discover the internet.
What skills and qualifications do I need?
For this role, it is essential that you have:
- 5+ years of programming experience in Java or equivalent Object-Oriented language
- Experience developing large-scale distributed systems
- Deep understanding of strong Computer Science fundamentals including object-oriented design, data structures, systems, applications programming, and multithreading programming
- Production systems understanding
- Experience with SQL and No-SQL databases
- High proficiency in a Linux environment
- Proven ability to work effectively across multiple teams
- BS.c in computer science or equivalent experience
Nice to have:
- Experience in Big Data tools
- Knowledge in algorithms, data mining, and machine learning
What will I be doing on a day-to-day basis?
As a Sr. Software Engineer, you will:
- Develop and maintain one of the largest real-time high-scale operations in the world, supporting over 1.4B users and >500,000 requests per second, with 150TB of new data every day
- Own the end-to-end process: design, develop, deploy, measure, and maintain our services
- Solve production issues in the framework code
- Collaborate closely with a team of bright software engineers
- Directly influence the way billions of people discover the internet
- Roll out custom solutions such as Cassandra compaction strategy, Kafka consumer, and metrics pipeline Implement anomaly detection engines and authentication services

Java, Spark, Kafka, Hadoop, Cassandra, Vertica, MySQL, HDFS, BigQuery, Docker, Linux, Kubernetes, Prometheus, Metrictank, Grafana, Airflow, Redis
You will work with:
- The people who wrote the first lines of code in Taboola (and many many more lines after that)
- The proud owner of a beer brewery
- People who are deeply familiar with the code of Kafka, Cassandra, AirFlow, Prometheus and Spark (including committing back)
- Famous internal Taboola hackathon winners
- The designers and implementers of a offheap, zero GC, Custom Kafka Producer which cumulatively sends ~100B messages / day
